Barrier Reef Eco Resort
The birthplace of Queensland.

History

Frequently referred to as "The Birthplace of Queensland", this location was discovered by Capt James Cook on 24 May 1770 when he went ashore at Round Hill Head with Sir Joseph Banks making his first landfall in Queensland.

The town of 1770 was named for the year of discovery. The name of its companion town, Agnes Water was claimed to have been named after the schooner "Agnes" was lost nearby in 1873.

The two towns of Agnes Water and 1770 are seaside resort towns with links to national and international eco-tourism.

Today the whole area remains largely untouched and is enveloped by Deepwater and Eurimbula National Parks, a paradise with pristine beaches and bays and an abundance of native flora and fauna.
